The anointing is the divine empowerment that enables believers to walk in God’s presence and fulfill His purpose. Yet Scripture warns that the anointing can be lost, neglected, or allowed to run dry when one departs from obedience and holiness. Preserving the anointing requires vigilance, humility, and a life fully surrendered to Christ.
Below are ten prophetic ways to preserve the anointing and remain fruitful in the presence of God.
Disobedience springs from pride and self-will. King Saul was commanded to destroy the Amalekites completely, yet he spared what seemed good in his own eyes (1 Samuel 15:1–24). His justification sounded reasonable to him, but it was rebellion against God’s command. As a result, he lost both his kingdom and his anointing.
Lesson: Obedience is more valuable than sacrifice. To preserve the anointing, we must submit fully to God’s instructions without compromise.
The commandments of the Lord are the foundation of holy living (Exodus 20:1–17). David prospered because he was a doer of the law, not merely a hearer. To know the law is not enough; to walk in it is what secures blessing.
Lesson: Obedience is the passport to heaven and communion with the saints.
Scripture warns against immorality and drunkenness (Hosea 4:11; Jeremiah 3:9). These practices defile the body and quench the Spirit.
Lesson: Purity preserves the anointing; indulgence drains it.
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26). To be in Christ is to hold the key to life and victory over death.
Lesson: The anointing flourishes only in Christ.
Pride, arrogance, and abomination are the devil’s nature (Proverbs 6:16–19). Lucifer fell because of pride, and pride continues to destroy many.
Lesson: Humility keeps the anointing fresh; pride dries it up.
Leviticus 20:18 warns against sexual relations during menstruation, declaring it unclean. Such practices open doors to error and demonic access.
Lesson: Holiness in body preserves the anointing.
Acknowledgment means recognizing God’s authority, expressing gratitude, and conceding His reality (Isaiah 43:1–28).
Lesson: A heart that continually acknowledges God remains filled with His Spirit.
Idolatry, sorcery, and occultism are abominations (Deuteronomy 18:9–14; Leviticus 19:31; 20:6). These practices defile and cut off the soul from God.
Lesson: The anointing cannot coexist with idols.
Jesus warned against resisting or insulting the Holy Ghost (Luke 12:12). The Spirit is the source of anointing; dishonoring Him dries it up.
Lesson: Reverence for the Spirit preserves His flow.
Prayer is the lifeline of the anointing. Through supplication and worship, believers remain connected to the source (Jeremiah 1:4–5).
Lesson: A prayerless life is a dry life; a prayerful life is an anointed life.
The anointing is preserved through obedience, purity, humility, reverence, and continual communion with God. To neglect these is to risk dryness and loss of divine empowerment. To embrace them is to walk in fresh oil, renewed strength, and lasting fruitfulness.
